Golden Gate from trolley turn around.
Friday we took the ferry into San Francisco from Vallejo. It was about a 55 minute trip on calm seas. Found it was probably a wise choice after seeing the parking possibilities in town. Walked about a mile and quarter from the drop off point to Fisherman's wharf where we had lunch at Bubba Gump's. Had a table looking out over the bay and over to Alcatraz. Great ambiance. We wanted to tour Alcatraz but the earliest available reservation was on Sunday and we really didn't want to make the trip back just for that even though everyone talks so favorably of it. After lunch we sauntered through the wharf's touristy shops and then made our way to the trolley car loading area for a ride down (or should I say "up") memory lane. That was an experience. I got to ride standing on the outside hanging on to the pole as we ascended and descended the hills of San Francisco. Fun!! The last stop seemed to drop us off in the middle of the city and a throng of people. And I do mean all kinds. One guy was carrying a bull horn yelling unintelligible nonsense while others did their street dance, etc hoping for a hand out. We didn't stay long. Found the nearest cable car and made our way back to the pier from whence we started.  For some reason, big cities don't do a thing for me.
